About

Written and directed by Tramaine Raphael Gray, Becoming is a short film exploring Black male identities through brotherhood, grace, love and freedom. The film explores how various struggles born out of the effects of toxic masculinity are met overcome by two brothers who are wrestling with the differences that exist between their dreams and realities. The viewer takes an introspective journey through the eyes of Shawn and Rashad, who both envision their own becoming in different, yet very similar ways.

Our Solve

The Firebrand team worked closely with Gray to understand the film’s major themes, tone, and color palette inspired by the Dreamworld scenes that the characters inhabit in parts of the film. The end result was a layered, dreamy poster that makes the viewer pause and take in the main characters as multi-faceted individuals who both challenge and balance one another throughout their story.

“I genuinely enjoyed this collaboration with Firebrand. As a meticulous creative and visual person, I found their commitment to achieving the vision to be a breath of fresh air. I loved how they found balance, and focused on making sure the artwork they created was done with intention and care.”
